5 Points to Consider When Buying A New Computer
Shopping for new electronics can be information overload. Since there are so many resources, products and choices to make when investing in your next purchase, I thought I would break it down a bit to help in your decision.
Let’s first look at what you might need:
Laptop or tower?
There seems to be a big difference between a $300 computer and $1500 one, and the main reason is how much memory and how fast it is. Do I really need the 16.0GB DDR4 2400MHz memory capability the Lenovo Yoga 920 Vibes offers? Probably not. 8GB RAM will be more than enough. I’m not a gamer, (and the grandkids won’t be using my computer either!) So for writing, designing websites, sales funnels, data collection, and picture production, I do need enough memory, and prefer a processor with the 8th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-8550U Processor (1.80GHz, up to 4.0GHz with Turbo Boost, 8MB Cache). That will give me the function and capabilities I need for several years to come. Brand. I’ve had HP computers and printers and have been very happy with them, however brand is becoming a non-decision making point when choosing a computer. If you ask a Best Buy employee which computer is best, they’re going to choose one based on the speed (processor), memory and price. Who has the best price is the bottom-line decision maker. Each brand of computer will have their low end to high end line with all the bells and whistles. Some are designed for gamer, some for students and others for business owners. Knowing which one is best suited for you depends on what you’ll be using it for. Knowing which one has the best customer support is a plus as well. You can go to Consumer Reports to check out their views point on computer brands. Price. What is a good deal? Cheapest is just that…cheap. You get what you paid for as the saying goes. However if you look at what’s the best value that fits your needs…then you will be on track to finding the right computer. Today’s best value – maybe gone tomorrow!
