Workshop events are powerful tools to move forward. Yes, we have YouTube, webinars, online courses, podcasts, and the list keeps growing on the entire how-to do anything you can think of or dream up.
But wouldn’t it be nice to have a weekend blocked out to focus on building that dream?
An exclusive interactive event, where you can work through the process of setting up your business online?
That’s what I’ve been working on all this week! And I’m so excited about incorporating what I’ve learned from Russell Brunson’s Dotcom Secrets book and his other courses, with what I’ve experienced over the past few years helping clients with their online business needs. I found my clients kept repeating patterns causing road blocks in their own business successes. Like, the fear of learning.
It comes in different forms:
- I don’t have time to do social media…
- I hate FaceBook…
- I don’t want to tell my story – I just want to run my business…
- I’m not techy…
Sound like a bunch of excuses right? We’re all good at that – it gets us out of doing something we don’t want to do (or don’t understand.)
So in the process of gathering my multiple years of material for the workshop program, (I promise it won’t be boring!) I started thinking about why I wanted to do this.
It’s more than the income it would provide, it’s the giving back to my family, friends, and community. Plus I love to help people. Especially other people like me that have gone through the struggle of trying to figure out the whole making money online thing.
As a writer I can’t help not to reflect how my whole business has changed me too. Through all the ups and downs – I’ve broken though my fears & blocks too over the years.
You see my daughter told me awhile ago that she and her husband never want to be in my position:
- Dependent on the state help, or others
- Broke
- No Retirement
- No Future
As hurtful as the truth sounded it was the disappointment in her voice and eyes that made my heart & soul sink.
It wasn’t that I didn’t work hard all my life – it was because I did and got nothing to show for it. It’s not that I didn’t have dreams of being the best provider for my family, traveling, and having many successes throughout my life time and retirement to enjoy…It all just seemed to be forever out of my reach.
Let’s back this train wreck up for a moment.
Raising two children as a single parent meant working two jobs and plus a side hustle or two. It meant going without so the kids could have what they needed. No we didn’t take the Disney trip on Spring break, but we made our own fun at home with bonfires & s’mores, Lake Michigan day trips, or exploring every county and state park around us.
In Michigan like many places, gone were the days of 30 years on a job and retiring with full pension and health benefits. I worked where I could get the most money, the best hours, and if it had health insurance that was bonus for the family. Being treated fairly and good working conditions – well, you always hoped for that, but it wasn’t always the case.
I’d quit one job for a better one, but soon realized I was only trading time for money, and it was never enough to pay the bills.
Time past so quickly, and my children are now grown and have children of their own.
30 years of retail/sales and management in all types of businesses, and I had nothing to show for it.
Started all kinds of business with great expectations. Started from nothing and built them up, only to find another road block to failure. Maybe it was just me.
My main side business since 2000 has been my website business. Which grew and I added many other services to enhance it. However websites have changed so much – and anyone can make one, which once again created the need to start over. Reinventing myself was becoming my specialty.
So many times I’ve felt like I’m so close to making it – to having dreams come true. I longed for not having to worry about money. I wanted to be able to support my growing family & give back to my community, and to have a future to look forward to and not worry about money.
I was done working for other people and companies – there are no loyalties on either side. And all I was doing was trading my time for a little money.
If I was going to start over yet again, I knew I need to sharpen my skills. So many people were making money online – I knew I could do it too.
Putting myself back through college and working part time, I knew was a huge risk (especially at my age), but I knew it was more than a degree I was looking for – it was the experience to learn as much as I can (digital cameras, filming, digital design) and to be exposed to younger people from all over the world (that alone was priceless.)
My English Professor told me once; you don’t need a degree in Journalism to write anymore, any fool can write online. I told her I agree, but will it reach the audience it was intended for and will they listen?
I was working hard to once again rebuild after graduating. Reading and following online as much as possible to put new skills to work.
Meanwhile, I had moved back to my home town to take care of my elderly parents, which became a full time job, plus helping with grandchildren, why? Because that’s what I do. I help people.
I keep going. Keep working.
And then I came across ClickFunnels.
I had already watched a million webinars on sales funnels, on making your dreams come true writing online, on how to grow your business from zero to 10K a month…
But there he was, a young man no older than my kids, talking a million miles a minute!
They say stop the video, write it down and execute…I had to stop the video and keep replaying it until I could hear every detail he said!
His message came through as to what I needed to do next.
My website clients always expected that their site would magically give them the traffic and wealth instantly. No matter how many times I would tell them their site wasn’t anything different than a bill board along side of the road. If nobody drove by it – nobody would know who they are or what the offer is.
I started checking out ClickFunnels and Russell Brunson and found that the majority of people I’ve been following and learning from…are using ClickFunnels.
Grant Cardone, Grace Lever, Dean Graziosi, Keala Kanae, Jenna Kutcher…and the list goes on and on of all the mentors who are now using ClickFunnels to grow their business.
That’s mind blowing!
I ordered Brunson’s book Dotcom Secrets and couldn’t wait to get it! It finally arrived and after reading it, I immediately signed up for ClickFunnels.
I spent every waking moment trying to figure out how to make the funnel.
I should be able to do this! After all I am:
- A web designer
- Writer
- Graphic Artist
- Business Consultant
- And I know how to network…
How hard can this be?
Frustration set in over trying to learn it and do it all myself, plus juggling with an insane schedule of homecare for my folks. I hit a brick wall.
What was I missing?
What did my mentors have that I didn’t have? (Besides money!)
A team.
Okay sure they’re millionaires they can take an idea and afford to pay someone else to build it.
Reality sets in…wearing all the hats doesn’t accomplish your goal. It just makes you tired and more behind.
I wasn’t going to give up.
The next morning, I got an email. It was the ClickFunnel Challenge…for a $100.
Now keep in mind I’ve spent hundreds on other webinar courses of all kinds, membership fees, software, books, and let’s not forget a $25K student loan. All beautiful shiny objects in the quest of learning how to make money online! No fear here on learning that’s for sure!
Was this another shiny object?
What’s another hundred bucks at this point??
It changed it all.
It was never about the time or the money, or even how to make it all work.
It’s about the ‘who’ – and building a team and a support system. A system that will not only help me, but inspire me, to help others by building a community.
One click away…
Not a dream or get rich quick scheme.
It’s that one moment when everything changes in your life.
That moment when the disappointment leaves your children’s eyes – and more importantly – leaves the eyes in your own mirror.
I was so ready to begin to live the life that I wanted…and in the end it was already there waiting for me, I just needed to see it and move forward.
Are you ready to move forward?
